What Is Book Coaching and How Does It Help Authors?

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

— Maya Angelou

What is a book coach?

A book coach is a professional guide who helps authors bring their ideas, knowledge, and story out into the world through a finished book. Think of a book coach as your partner—someone who walks alongside you from where you are now to becoming a published author. A nonfiction book coach helps you with all the steps needed to get from idea to Amazon.

The goal is simple: help you write and publish a book you’re proud of.

What does a book coach do?

A book coach supports you through every stage of writing and publishing a nonfiction book. This may include brainstorming and turning your idea into a clear, compelling message; creating your outline and chapter structure; reviewing your manuscript and offering feedback; helping you stay accountable and on track; and guiding you through publishing your book on Amazon. A coach is with you to help you overcome any obstacles and build confidence.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

Who is book coaching for?

If you’ve ever said, “I want to write a book” but I don’t know where to start,” you may need a book coach. You’re invested in your decision to write the best book you can and know you’ll need professional assistance. Book coaching is ideal for first-time nonfiction authors, coaches, consultants, and service professionals and entrepreneurs who want to build authority with a book. Most of my clients are busy professionals who want expert guidance, structure, and accountability so they can finally finish their book.

Book coaching is for you if you’re ready to take that first step forward.

How does book coaching work?

Every author is different, so coaching is customized to your needs, schedule, and goals. I begin with a clear plan that includes setting up your writing schedule and publishing timeline, offering weekly or ongoing support sessions on Zoom with coaching and feedback on your writing, and accountability check-ins. I often refer you to other service providers for book cover design and formatters. My goal is to keep you moving forward consistently—so your book gets finished.

You’ll get the support you need.

What results can I expect from book coaching?

With the right support, writing your book becomes clearer, faster, and far less stressful. You’ll most likely experience increased confidence and skill as a writer, stronger, more organized content, fewer delays and less procrastination, completion of a high-quality nonfiction book, a clear path to publishing, and most importantly, someone with whom to celebrate your success.

Most importantly—you have a book you’re proud of.

How do I choose the right book coach?

The best book coach is someone you trust, feel comfortable with, and believe can guide you to your goal. Initially, ask other authors for a referral or do a search for an author in your genre. Have a consultation with at least two and determine whose skills seem to fit your needs and who you’re comfortable with. Apprise the book coach of your challenges, your goals, and your timeline. Together you’ll come up with a mutually beneficial arrangement.

You’re on your way!
